Ceruleanstudios released a sneak preview of Trillian 3. A tour that presents the new features if available on trillian.cc.
Besides long awaited features such as audio and video chat for all networks and improved file transfers, there are some unique features, e.g. a rewind option during video chats that is called Timetravel, small video clips that work as a smiley replacement (Emotiblips), a detailed history with chat logs and statistics and search features that automatically look up Wikipedia entries based on terms in the chat. Some of these features are only available in the Pro version. Basic and Pro version use the same code now, but some functionality is only enabled after entering the Pro member data.
Some of the features that are only available to Pro user are video chat, plugin support and additional chat networks such as Jabber and Rendezvous (allows chats in the local network without a central server). Users of Trillian Basic may order a test account to test these features for free.
During the switch to the new plugin system, IRC support has been completely rewritten. The whole interface as been changed to offer a more consistent interface. Right-click menus have been cleaned up, the preferences are rebuild and now work similar to the Windows system settings.
During the last weeks, a pre-test with a small group of people has been carried out and this time no preliminary version was leaked to the public. As the software reached a stable state now, it has been made available for more testers and all Pro users may download it in the members area. It is not yet available as a public test version, but after the announcement, the download showed up on many sites. If you want to avoid the risk of a virus infected download you should wauit another few hours until the official download will be available to the general public. The download area is already available on trillian.cc and will be activated once the limited testing group has confirmed that no serious bugs exist. However, it will still be a beta version which will contain bugs. If you want to be on the safe side you should wait for the final version.
