Trillian and MSN support

A few days ago Microsoft announced that older version of the MSN protocol will no longer be supported from October 15 on. This is meant to force user to upgrade to new software version, as older ones contain security vulnerabilities. Several news sites have been speculating how this affects Trillian.

Some reports even claimed that Trilian will drop MSN support. However, these reports are speculation of the editors, a Microsoft spokesperson only said that they can't guarantee that Trillian will still working properly in the MSN network. But he also added that Microsoft is interested in third party support.

Microsoft actively helped the Trillian developers a while ago. It is unlikely that they will lock the out now. The new Trillian Pro 2.0 (currently in beta testing) already support the new MSN protocol version 9.0. The free version will get this support with the already announced update.

Ceruleanstudios have proved their fast reaction times for patches in the past. Even in the unlikely case that Microsoft is trying to lock them out, Trillian will not loose its MSN support.
